Hello All,
I again thank you for your extraordinary patience while I was so ill for many weeks. Canceled classes and sub teachers and nothing consistent at all. All the same, I feel like the kids and I are getting to know each other and that makes me happy! I know a lot of my students have been sick too, I'm empathetic and I know the inconsistency of class time will shake out in the end.
Our pillars for this year of learning are the life of Jesus as read in the Gospel books and learning the Apostles Creed inside and out. Not just memorizing it, understanding what each line of it means in depth so when we pray it, the kids understand totally what they are professing.
With that said, there is zero point in learning about the life of Jesus OR about the Apostle's Creed if the kids have ZERO relationship with God. So, a real dive into prayer has been the focus of the past two classes.
Kids, review this 6 minute video from Fr. Mike Schmidtz. We watched it in class, but it is worth a second watch:
We've covered contemplative, meditative and vocal prayer in class two weeks ago - the HOW. Last Monday we discussed TYPES of prayers and the handout was a prayer planner of sorts:
Adoration: Praising God
Contrition: Asking God's forgiveness
Petition: Asking God for a favor
Thanksgiving: Showing God gratitude
Students: You were asked to write in on your worksheet a plan for the week for your prayer time. You will need to make a focused plan daily to intentionally talk to God in prayer.
HOMEWORK: The kids were asked to keep a daily log of when they prayed and for how long. I don't need personal prayer intention details, but they need to tell me that they prayed and how it went in a few lines. They will turn this into me.
